It’s for couples who don’t want a traditional wedding day.
Who prefer hiking boots over heels.

BEST PLACES TO ELOPE IN THE DOLOMITES

And then there are the places you won’t find on Instagram

Those are usually our favorites

Ok, we said no Pinterest or generic locations — and yes, this is probably the most photographed place in the Dolomites. But the area is huge, and we know exactly where (and when) to go to avoid the crowds. It’s all about wide spaces, quiet corners, and letting the peaks do their thing — especially at sunrise or sunset.

2.5–3 hours from Venice / 1–1.5 hours from Cortina d’Ampezzo

driving time

Iconic limestone peaks, vast open views, and endless alpine backdrops.

Highlight

Couples who want the Dolomites look but without the chaos — and are open to early mornings or slow evenings.

Best For

Sunrise or sunset hikes, easy alpine walks, rifugio stops, panoramic viewpoints.

Activities

1 |  Tre Cime Di Lavaredo

Perfect for slow moments and long walks without pressure. We’ve been here countless times and every visit feels different — a new corner, a new rifugio, a new field exploding with wildflowers. If you love gentle hikes or mountain biking and want your elopement to feel unhurried, this is the spot.

1–1.5 hours from Bolzano / 30 minutes from Ortisei

driving time

Rolling meadows, soft light, wildflowers, and an open, peaceful feel.

Highlight

Couples who want a relaxed elopement with space to breathe and move slowly.

Best For

Hiking, mountain biking, wildflower walks, sunset picnics, rifugio hopping.

Activities

2 |  Alpe Di Siusi

These areas are perfect when weather is unpredictable or timelines need to stay flexible. You get big views, dramatic rock formations, and plenty of options without committing to long hikes — ideal if you want an epic backdrop without overcomplicating the day.

1 hour from Cortina d’Ampezzo

driving time

High-impact scenery with very easy access.

Highlight

Couples who want flexibility, dramatic landscapes, and minimal hiking.

Best For

Short walks, sunset ceremonies, cable car access, alpine viewpoints.

Activities

3 |  Passo Giau & Cinque Torri

Accessible by cable car with short walks — but our favorite way to experience Seceda is different. We recommend hiking after the cable car closes, spending the night at a rifugio, and heading down by gondola just as the crowds start coming up. Quiet, slow, and completely different energy.

45 minutes from Ortisei (including cable car)

driving time

Sharp ridgelines and full 360° mountain views.

Highlight

Couples who want something dramatic and are happy to play with timing.

Best For

Cable car access, ridge hikes, overnight rifugio stays, sunrise walks.

Activities

4 |  Seceda

Yes, it’s famous. And yes, timing matters. Early morning or off-season turns Lago di Braies into something calm and intimate. When the light hits the water and the crowds are still asleep, it feels quiet, grounded, and incredibly romantic.

1.5 hours from Cortina d’Ampezzo

driving time

Emerald lake surrounded by steep peaks and forest.

Highlight

Couples who love water, reflections, and soft light — and don’t mind early starts.

Best For

Lakeside walks, sunrise ceremonies, rowboat photos, short forest hikes.

Activities

5 |  Lago Di Braies

We don’t believe in generic or copy paste locations from Pinterest.
Your location should match your pace, comfort level and vision.

CAN YOU LEGALLY ELOPE IN THE DOLOMITES?

Short answer: yes, but most couples don’t.

You can get legally married in Italy as a foreigner, but it involves:

Official documents from your home country

Translations and apostilles

Town hall appointments

Specific timelines

Because of this, most couples choose to do the legal paperwork at home and then have a symbolic ceremony in the Dolomites.
